Crusaders vs. Sharks: Super Rugby clash ready to entertain UK critics
Super Rugby’s super clash is ready to entertain its United Kingdom critics on Monday, March 26, 2011 as Crusaders take on the Sharks.
The Super Rugby format has always been criticized in UK for its unique style. They believe that this form of game is “exotic blend of touch rugby and basketball.” This would be the first match of Super Rugby going to be played at other than SANZAR soil.
This is the relocated match of Crusaders to be played at Twickenham in London as earlier on the match was denied at the same venue due to pre-fixed game of local club. Later on RFU reversed its decision and allowed the Crusaders to play the match in London.
This is in fact a charity match opted to help the home city of Crusaders Christchurch was hit by earthquake on February 22, 2011. The deadly tremor left 182 people killed; as many as 170 missing and hundreds of houses were collapsed.
The Crusaders were left nomads after the quake as their home ground AMI stadium in Christchurch was damaged and later on declared unfit to host any match. The AMI stadium was scheduled to host five matches of super rugby and seven of Rugby World Cup being
held this year in New Zealand in September.
The Super Rugby match is supposed to be warmly welcomed by the English spectators as 30,000 tickets have been sold in a short time. However, as for the change in people’s thinking Super Rugby is concerned that is quiet unsure. The Crusaders captain Kieran
Read pointed out the same and said, “You can't change some people's minds, even if you play well. So, we will just do what we can do.”
On the other hand the Crusader have found new home for their remaining matches of Super Rugby Championship. Napier and Wellington are named to host their matches that finally soothing breath for them. The Crusaders will play their next home match in South
Canterbury against the Bulls on April 9, 2011. After that, they will take on the Otago Highlanders on April 23, 2011 and after some reasonable rest they will travel to Napier to play against the Chiefs on May 21.
