Crusted eyes when waking up?

lately when I wake up, I get crust around my eyes and it forms around my eye lids. I know that I don't have pink eye because I had pink eye before and my eye wasn't feeling heavy and sensitive, they also feel fine in the day time and no puss. I use to wear eyeliner and don't wash it off when I sleep and thats when it started occurring, but now i stopped doing that and its still happening...I don't have health insurance so I can't go to an eye doctor....I just hope it's not serious

  1. I get that around the edge of my eyes, but I think it's just from waking up, kinda like the "Sandman" myth...just wash your face, and it'll go away. I really don't think it's anything.

  2. There are a lot of allergens out there. Especially this time of year.  I'm going through what you described now also.  When something irritates the eyes, they will flush themselves with tears.  Your eyes are watering in your sleep and flushing out any irritants.  This mixed with dust, dirt, pollen, etc. is what is most likely causing the crustiness around your eyes when you wake up.  Hope this helps.

  3. hey... i used to get that crusted eyes at a time when i was a kid. when i first woke up, i couldnt even open my eyes bcoz my upper eye lashes were glued to the my lower eye lashes (i thought i was going blind)..sounds yucky ha..and i got that crusty eyes everytime i woke and so i went to see a doctor and he prescribed me some eyes drops (taken before sleep). and it went away...=)

  4. It may be too dry in your bedroom.  Try putting moisturizing eye-drops in your eyes before going to bed.  Visine is good.  Or any that are for allergies are good too.  Make sure you don't buy that stuff for contact lenses.

  5. I actually work for an Ophthalmologist and one of the most common causes if a condition called Blepharitis... inflammation of the eyelid margin, natural bacteria that is microscopic forms naturally on the eyelid margin causing crusting and sometime a foreign body sensation.... we suggest using warm compresses before going to bed at night or you can even by lid scrubs over the counter. Sometimes using artificial tears throughout the day can help.... but most importantly using the warm compresses.... sometimes a bland ointment called erythromycin- farely cheap at wal-mart with a prescription can do the trick...a huge percent of our population has this condition from young children and greater in older folks..... hope that helps and good luck..

  6. Its probaby just allergies...cause I had the same problem but the thing it only lasted for 2 weeks....

    hope I helped!!
