The legendary footballer has voiced his views regarding the Madrid trainer, claiming that he was a failure as a footballer and can only redeem his career through success in management.
Retired http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 player/manager, Johan Cruyff, has expressed that Real Madrid head coach, Jose Mourinho, wants to attain as much success as he can since he has a desire to make a name for himself as a manager.
The former Barca star also hinted that the Portuguese tactician is hungry for fame, which is something he could not achieve as an athlete. He exclaimed that the former Porto boss strives to be unique and distinct as compared to other managers in the modern
game.
Cruyff’s statement has come in wake of Mourinho’s claims in which he stated that he should be called the ‘Only One’. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan coach had suggested that since he is the only trainer to have won all three major European league titles, he should
be called the ‘Only One’.
Whilst he managed English Premier League outfit, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, the Blancos’ mentor had exclaimed that he was the ‘Special One’ and made this statement following FC Porto’s success in the UEFA Champions League.
However, the 49-year-old recently quoted that he is matchless in terms of being a successful manager since he has the English Premier League, the Italian Serie A and the Spanish La Liga trophy to his name.
In response to these claims, Cruyff maintained that if it was up to the Portuguese tactician, he would have ‘Only One’ written on his shirt.
While talking to reporters, retired veteran was quoted as saying:
“Maybe nobody has ever called him unique and therefore he wants that name printed on his shirt. Yes, he is the only one, the only mad enough to say a thing like that. He's so mad he's in a straitjacket. He didn't accomplish anything as a footballer and now,
as a manager, he can.”
He also went on to discuss the future of the Catalan giants under Tito Vilanova.
"He [Vilanova] has to prove his worth when the going gets tough. We'll have to wait and see before we jump to conclusions about him. Working behind Guardiola is not the same as being in charge, it's completely different.”
Mourinho most recently helped Madrid win the Spanish La Liga and is now planning to win it again in the upcoming season.
