Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD claim top spot at the Serbian National League – Volleyball news
Following the success of Crvena Zvezda men’s volleyball team, their sassy female counterparts also settled for the top honour in the national league.
Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD women’s team seized third consecutive crown after beating NIS Spartak SUBOTICA in the final showdown. Overall, the team marked it 26th title win at the Serbian National Volleyball League.
The final showdown of the tournament covered its length in five sets. NIS Spartak SUBOTICA put up a great fight but failed to avoid the chances of defeat. Crvena Zvezda sent 18-25, 25-27, 25-21, 26-24, and 15-12 on board and claimed 3-2 victory.
The Dudova Suma sports hall in Beograd set up the field of play for the thrilling encounter and around 3,000 fans witnessed the volleyball scrimmage between two top teams of the country.
The first set of the match portrayed a different picture. NIS Spartak proved to be better and secured opening set with a margin of seven points (25-18). The Spartak squad displayed great performance and it seemed as if they would win the match.
However, the team of Crvena Zvezda came up with an aggressive response in the second set. The loss of opening set totally aggravated the team to throw everything in attack. The Crvena Zvezda attacker hit from all angles and tried to cover the deficit. They
faced a strong resistance from the opposite side as Spartak refused to give up so easily. The Spartak gave a good competition to the rivals and extended their lead to 2-0 by posting another set victory with 27-25 onboard.
The loss of two sets in row forced Crvena Zvezda to form a better game strategy in the third set. They regrouped and came out of the blues with strong offence and solid defence. The Crvena Zvezda fans finally came to life when the team captured third set,
25-21. Afterwards, the Beograd squad got its full form back and scored back-to-back victories in fourth and fifth sets. Despite having a good start in the match, Spartak dropped the decision and ended up in second spot.
The match was followed by a colourful closing ceremony, where both teams were awarded trophies and different accolades.
The skipper of Crvena Zvezda, Ana Bjelica, received the trophy from President of the Association regrouping all clubs competing in Serbia’s first division Mr. Goran Cato. Furthermore, she also received a check for 1.1 million RSD from the representative
of major sponsor of the tournament Wiener Städtische insurance group. The runner-up team was given the consolation trophy by Ms. Ana Avramovic, the Vice President of the Association representing all of Serbia’s first division clubs. The captain of NIS Spartak
