Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD wins Serbian National Cup – Volleyball news
The title match of the Serbian national cup- women saw Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD compete with their counter parts of NIS Spartak SUBOTICA.
The final of the championship was hosted in the Serbian city of Beograd while the venue of the competition was the Kolubara sports hall in Lazarevac.
It did not take long for the home team to assert their dominance over their opponents as the title was secured by BEOGRAD after they made a clean sweep over NIS. Not only did the home squad manage the win by securing three back to back sets, they did so
by completely smothering their rivals.
The final set scores were as 25-21, 25-20 and 25-13.
The first set of the match started off with both the teams coming out strong and not letting the other take the advantage for a long time. There were a couple of lead changes seen throughout the set with the score close at every point. However, it was eventually
the BEOGRAD squad that was able to propel themselves forward towards an opening set win at 25-21.
The momentum generated from winning the first set of the game got the BEOGRAD to play the second set with energy that kept the NIS at bay throughout the frame. Therefore, the second set also ended on the terms of the NIS squad at 25-20.
The loss of the first two sets got the morale of the NIS down and they put in a half-hearted effort in the third set that enabled the BEOGRAD to secure an easy win.
The BEOGRAD had made it to the finals this time around by giving an impressive defeat to Vizura BEOGRAD. On the other hand, the second place holder NIS had edged the girls of Kolubara LAZAREVAC to make it to the final of the national cup.
The recent win has enabled the BEOGRAD to get hold of the Serbian national volleyball title match for the 15th time in their history. Next in line for the winning squad of BEOGRAD is the Challenge Round of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup in which
the Serbian girls will be up against tough teams such as the Galatasaray ISTANBUL.
