  1. Is there a parent and baby group nearby where your son can meet other babies and find a world apart from your arms?  It would also provide a bridge for him between you 24/7 and you absent for several hours.

  2. It sux, but it has to be done...just like you said, it is beneficial for the baby to learn how to settle himself... for him & for u....

  3. Enrol him in the army , what do you expect of him at 9 months

  4. CIO will not be so hard now that he's only 5 months. if you wait it takes longer. i don't think you have much to fear here. just give him loads of reassurance and go in to him frequently, like never leave him for more than 5 mintures. make sure his bed is nice and cosy and a special place. put some musical toys in there and teach him how to pull the string so it plays some music for him. when he's this young he won't have the ability to resist sleep for hours like older babies are.

and you are a good parent. do not doubt that. sometimes CIO is necessary and it will not hurt your baby or your relationship. i did CIO at 10 months and it wasn't fun but it did help and i was able to go back to work without the bags under my eyes.

  5. When you put your baby down to rest is he clean, fed, warm & has he got his dummy/pacifier if he uses one? Yes,? Then wheres the problem? So long as he is comfortable he will be fine to be left to cry out. I did this with all 3 of my babies & it's amazing how quickly they get the message. If he cries & you constantly go check on him or even worse pick him up he will never get used to being left. Don't feel guilty, it isn't abusive to leave him. As he will be going to a nursery, which will be quite noisy, you may want to set him down with a radio playing near by so he gets used to other noises & wont be disturbed so easily. Good luck. x
