  1. There aren't any college classes in cryptozoology - the creatures, being unknown, are of course difficult to actually study.

Courses in zoology, ecology, and paleontology will help you know what creatures are known, and how we go about studying them.  Courses in systematics and taxonomy will help in understanding how we classify the organisms.

How do I get into the field of cryptozoology? Are there any classes taught on the subject? This is one of the most frequent questions I hear. But I'm sorry to say that there are very few classes ever given in cryptozoology (I taught one in 1990) and no formal cryptozoology degree programs available anywhere. So my advice would be to pick whatever subject you are most passionate about (primates? felids? giant squids? fossil men?) and then match it up with the field of study that matches that subject (anthropology, zoology, linguistics, etc.). Pursue that subject, pick the college that is good in that arena, and you can develop your niche in cryptozoology and not go wrong. (I studied anthropology/zoology, and then moved on to more psychological graduate studies to understand the human factor.)

A number of people, and educators, have asked me to post a blog about the work I am doing to create a cryptozoology degree program. There is still a very long way to go in establishing an accredited, college level degree for cryptozoology, but some progress is being made -- not only on the higher education level, but in middle and high school programs as well.

The recommendations I've made, regarding establishing an Associate's degree in cryptozoology science are as follows:

The best place to start is usually the beginning, so the first section I will outline here has to do with the state required general education requirements here in Florida. State educators have established a number of required courses for any discipline being taught as a degreed program. These requirements are pretty much the same, regardless of the educational venue, and thus are included as part of all community college or university programs.

The idea behind this requirement is that...
