According to a Russian website, the third instalment in CryTek’s Crysis series will mark a return to New York City, albeit with the urban jungle more jungle than urban this time around.
Crysis once set the benchmark for PC’s in terms of gaming and many would ask when purchasing their home computer whether or not it could run the demanding game. It boasted the best visuals on any system thanks to CryTek’s Cry Engine.
Crysis 2, the game’s sequel was even more ambitious as it swapped the jungles of some remote land in a distant place with New York City as its premise. This meant skyscrapers, hotels, streets, subways and delis, all of which had to be recreated in a realistic
way.
CryTek managed to pull it off, though many gamers complained about the excessive use of the colour grey in the game. The man in the ‘grey’ nano-suit walked around with ‘grey’ guns in a city full of ‘grey’ concrete and so on.
However, the last level of the game which took place in Central Park, which was floating a couple of hundred feet in the air, did change things up a bit, apart from the grey suit and guns of course.
When the game ended one wondered where the game would go next. It turns out that the game isn’t going anywhere but rather a more jungle-ified New York City. That is if one was to take the word of a Russian website that claims to have the inside scoop of
the game.
CryTek has made no secret of working on a new title, yet they never confirmed or denied whether it was Crysis title or not. However, box-art for Crysis 3 appeared on Origin, which is EA’s very own digital distribution platform, showing the nano-suit clad
protagonist holding a military grade bow and arrow.
Whether or not the game takes place in a wild New York City is anyone’s guess at this point but one thing is for sure and that is the fact that it will not be very long before Crysis 3 is confirmed by the publisher and the developer.
