Crysis developer takes over Homefront 2
It seems the popular and much adored Hollywood couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, more affectionately known as Brangelina, have inspired many with their charitable efforts, especially Angelina who seems to have inspired development powerhouse Crytek with
her adoption efforts.
While many readers will be scratching their heads wondering what we are on about at this point, the comparison will become clear as the article goes on.
Homefront is a first person shooter game many will be familiar with for very different reasons. The jury was so mixed in their reactions to the game it is hard to define it as either a flop or a hit.
Some loved the feel of the shooting and the weapons, praised the solid multiplayer and appreciated the brutality and raw, savage nature of the plot. On the other hand, the same game was unbearable for others who had to deal with the game crashing on a constant
basis, redundantly pathetic enemy AI and graphics which belong on yester consoles.
THQ seemed to have discontinued the project when another developer known for making games that push platforms to their technical limits, CryTek, became interested in it. For those who do know, CryTek is the studio behind the visually stunning Crysis games,
Crysis 1 and Crysis 2, and have made an image as a studio that raised the benchmark when it comes to visuals and graphics with each title.
Just to put things in perspective, there was a time when one could judge whether a PC was any good or not based on whether it could run Crysis or not.
An interesting, yet unrelated fact, is the trophy/achievement players would unlock by playing the game which read, ‘Can it run Crysis?’
CryTek’s work is similar to that of THQ’s on Homefront if one was to compare the story of both games. Both have an ‘alien’ force invading United States of America and both have a resistance feel to it, albeit one is less sci-fi than the other.
With that in mind it comes as no surprise that the CEO of CryTek, Cevat Yerli, stated, “We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ”.
Before explaining what CryTek brought to the deal, he added, “We believe that our bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title, creates an opportunity for both THQ and CryTek to deliver a truly blockbuster game.”
The CryTek Chief Executive officer also explained that they had been given creative freedom with Homefront 2, whether or not that means we will see a nano-suit clad marine walking in and saving the day for US Army and the Resistance, is still unlikely.
