Crystal Palace sign Everton youngster on loan
Crystal Palace today confirmed that they have completed a deal which will see Everton striker James Vaughan join them on loan.
The 22-year-old has secured a three-month temporary switch to the Football League Championship outfit. The paperwork has been completed in time to allow the forward to join the squad for Saturday’s league clash away to Reading. Former England Under-21 international Vaughan has been assigned the number nine shirt at Selhurst Park.
Left out of Moyes' plans
Vaughan has been left out of Everton manager David Moyes’ plans completely and was not even named in the team for a reserve match last week. Sheffield United, Derby and Burnley were also interested in the striker, but with the English Premier League side looking for a club to contribute significantly towards Vaughan’s wages of £15,000 per week, Palace were the only outfit willing to stump up the cash.
If Vaughan impresses, he could make the move permanent after struggling with injuries since making his first-team breakthrough five years ago. However, Moyes will be looking for a fee of around one million pounds if Vaughan’s switch from Liverpool to London is made permanent.
Vaughan came through the youth academy at Everton. He became the youngest-ever player to feature for the club’s first team when he made his debut against Palace in April 2005. He also became the EPL’s youngest-ever scorer when he netted in the match.
After signing his first professional contract that summer, Vaughan sustained an injury to his knee ligaments early in the 2005-06 season. Complications with the injury meant that he was ruled out for the rest of the season.
Further problems arose when he suffered a severed artery in his foot against Bolton Wanderers and a dislocated shoulder in July 2007. In total, Vaughan has made 57 appearances for Everton and has scored nine goals for the senior team.
