Csa child maintenance???

my new partner is paying child maintenance not through the csa. he pays it monthly to the mother. the child in question has just turned 18 and is supposedly in further education. the mother turned up last night saying he has to pay it until she is twenty five because she is going into further education for a five year course at cardonald univeristy.

i checked out some stuff online and as far as i am aware he only pays it up until she is 19 as long as she is in further education (not higher education or degree or diploma). am i right and is there any circumstances where he would have to pay it past her 19th birthday?? any web site suggestions would be great thanks.

  1. Has to pay it or should pay it?? He has a daughter and she wants to go to university... it is right and proper your partner should support his daughter while she is being educated. He should support her and really shouldnt be looking for ways out of his responsibility.

  2. If the daughter is in further education then he has no legel cause to pay a penny more. As a previous poster said once child benifit stops that is it, under child support laws the need for support is over as the child is deemed an adult. Genernally that is in September when they are 18.

I think that demanding money until 25 sounds a little greedy, since very few courses at uni last that long, especially when there are no courses that long at that university.

As for CSA they will have no interest in your case as it falls outside their remit.

  3. Call CSA as soon as the child is old enough all monies go to her not the mother, tell her to .......STEP OFF

  4. He has to pay until her 19th birthday, if she goes to uni she can ask her dad to help her out, it is no longer anything to do with the mother.

Also get him to ask for proof of her further education, such as a copy of her acceptance into higher education etc....

I'm an ex wife but I am civil with my ex husband, my new husband has the ex wife from h**l who would drain him of blood if she thought she could get money for it!

sweetsue I didn't read anywhere in this question that he doesn't want to pay.....read questions properly before answering, I bet you're another bitter ex!!

    Edit**

Sounds just like my hubby's kids, he has 3 and he only ever heard from his daughter when she wanted money(she's 14) When he told her he was paying her mother enough for the 3 of them she stopped all contact with him (May 07). Then she sent him a text in December 07 asking what he was getting them all for Christmas!! He told her they wouldn't be getting anything from him as he wasn't there just for birthday and Christmas presents and they had to have a proper relationship with him first.

    Try www.parentscentre.gov.uk

They gave us a lot of advice when we were having problems with CSA.

  5. If you're in UK, then it stops the same time as child benefit does. If they leave school and don't go onto further education it stops at the end of the school year when they reach 16, if they do certain apprentiships or go to college (non adavanced education) it continues till the end of the  year when they're 18, if they go on to university, it continues until the end of the schoolyear they reach 19. It can stop if they leave home, get married early, move to a different country or die.
