Cub Swanson technically knocks out Ross Pearson on UFC at FX4: Guida vs. Maynard – UFC News
Cub Swanson, the surging American mixed martial artist, grabbed an impressive technical knockout win over his Friday night opponent Ross Pearson in a three-round non-title bout held at UFC on FX4.
The duo met on the fight card headlined by the non-title five-round bout between Clay Guida and Gray Maynard. The show was televised live on June 22, 2012 and also witnessed Sam Stout take on Spencer Fisher in a non-title lightweight bout while constituting
the co-main event.
Cub, 28, initially faced difficulties as Ross put forth substantial resistance in fact took Swanson down twice. A multiple time ‘Fight of the Night’ winner, Cub was entering in his 22nd mixed martial art bout.
Swanson is basically a submission specialist – a technical brawler who executes his moves in a precise calculative manner. The Californian tried his level best to grab Ross in any of his submission manoeuvres but it was Ross who thwarted Cub’s every attempt.
In the first round, after throwing and connecting some low-powered jabs to each other, Ross moved in swiftly and grabbed Swanson taking him down on the octagon mat. The take down was brief as Cub immediately broke Ross’s grip and stood up.
After solidifying his ground Cub threw a thunderous kick that connected Pearson’s neck but this did not do the job as Ross continued to move over him. Swanson halted Pearson’s progression by continuously throwing kicks upwards while lying on the ground.
The bout entered the second round and it was Ross who underwent yet another takedown attempt. The effort went in vain as Cub easily loosened Pearson’s grip and threw a flying knee to defend himself.
Though Ross luckily avoided the knee just by an inch yet he was unable to avoid the kicks that followed Cub’s knee. The fight entered in its decisive phase as Swanson threw a powerful kick that connected well.
At that particular moment, Ross committed a huge mistake and grabbed Cub’s leg. Swanson took advantage of it and started connecting his left hooks. Ross started to lose his senses and eventually got flattened on the octagon floor.
At four minutes and 14 seconds, the referee intervened and ended the bout officially denoting Cub as the winner via technical knockout. After the bout the victorious Swanson stated, “I'm real good at that exiting left hook. I saw him like go for a knee or
something. He dropped both of his hands. I was circling that way and just caught him on the button.”
With this win Cub has collected his second UFC victory whereas Ross has received his career’s sixth loss.
