Cuba defeats Argentina 3-0 in Pool H of Women Volleyball World Grand Prix – Volleyball news
Argentina and Cuba met each other in a Pool H match of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix – Women on June 17, 2012. The Pool H matches of the tournament were being staged in the Serbian city of Belgrade. It did not take long for the match to reach its
close as the Cubans were able to end up on the winning side by making a clean sweep over Argentina.
Not only did Cuba end the weekend by bagging three sets back to back, they did so in a dominating fashion as each frame was secured by a comfortable margin. The score board showed the following final set scores: 25-16, 25-19 and 25-19.
The head coach of the Cuba squad, Juan Gala Rodriguez, shared his happiness at the win in the following words, “I am very satisfied because we recovered from the loss against Turkey on the first day of the competition, we reacted in a great manner, we raised
the level of our game, and we won the following two matches. We won the first tournament, this one was fine, and we are looking ahead for the Finals in China.”
On the other hand, the Argentinean coach, Horacio Bastit, expressed his feelings by making the following comments, “As I already said, we have difficulties playing against big teams. Last year we managed to beat Cuba once, but this year it was impossible.”
The opening frame of the game saw the Cubans speed ahead by taking an early lead while the Argentineans went on the chase. Despite the effort, Argentina could not come too close to their opponents as the Cubans propelled themselves forwards for an easy first
set win at 25-16.
Argentina stepped up their game at the start of the second set and was able to take and maintain the advantage till the coming of the second technical time out. However, Cuba was not going to give up so easily and they managed to take the lead and win the
frame at 25-19.
The third set of the game followed much the same pattern as the previous one and ended in a comfortable win for the Cubans at 25-19.
