The second match of the Pool C of the FIVB World Grand Prix – Women took place on June 8, Friday between Korea and Cuba.
The matches are being hosted by Busan, Korea. Despite the fact that the Cubans were playing against the raised odds of being in the home ground of their rivals, they were able to win a five set long struggle.
The coach of the winning team, Rodriguez Juan Gala, expressed his delight at the outcome of the match in the following manner, “Every match is not easy. I know that the Korea Team focuses on more about the 2012 London Olympic Games, but we did our best so
that we could defeat the Korea team.”
On the other hand, home team coach Kim Hyung-sil, shared his views by making the following statements at the press conference conducted after the match, “We had several chances to seize the change to victory however every time the height and power of Cuba
players did not allow it...I will order our players to have more confidence for the rest of 2012 World Grand Prix and ultimately 2012 London Olympic Games.”
The first set of the match started off with a Korean lead as they were cheered on by the home crowd but the Cubans managed to pull up and make the frame reach a tie at 14-14. Despite their effort, the Cubans were not able to stop the home team from bagging
the first set at 25-23.
The Koreans took the lead again in the second set but the Cubans kept it close. The frame was tied at 20-20 but the Cubans managed to bag the second frame and went on to win the third set as well at 25-18.
