Cuba...too many places, help please!?

Hello!

I'd like to go to Cuba around May time but am getting a bit overwhelmed by all the different places and hotels...has anyone got any advice? would be greatly appreciated!

I'm after a place with different things to do/see, a buzzing nightlife would also be fantastic to go out and enjoy a few mojitos in the evening! I've heard varadero and santiago de cuba are good for this, what is the consensus?!

I've been looking for hotels in these areas, im after something not too secluded and in easy reach of restaurants/bars which arent part of the hotel. i've looked at some travel agents with a lot of amazing hotels, but some are about 15km away from the nearest town which is a shame.

Thanks so much!

  1. Hey if you want a to do all as you want, the beach, sight, night clubs etcl... then yeap you do need to go to havana. It as everything but my personally it's way more expensive than the other city's. Holguin is where I go it's seem's nice but i just love the beach and peace you can get there, the beaches near there are Guarda LaVaca and Pesquero. Along with little beaches that run along. Good Luck and don't stress it there is lots to do where ever you go!

  2. I went to varadero and stayed at barcelo Solymar.

all inclusive- 24 hour bars, and EXCELLENT mojitos.

the food there was good to.

they have a restaurant open to all visitors, as well as

3 a la carte restaurants (you have to make reservations).

with an all inclusive-its all free, and its actually really good food.

your also really close to restaurants around the city- they are only a short cab drive away, or you could walk if you want.

at the hotel they put on shows everyday at 9, but there are tons of clubs close by too.

also, at the hotel you can sign up for day activities like the catamaran, where you are on a huge boat (catamaran) and get lots of drinks and stuff, and get to take pictures with dolphins.

i got a full body massage at the hotel too and it is reallly cheap. i think it was something like 30 CUC.

the beach area at barcelo solymar is excellent, and there is a bar there too.

if your looking for bars away from the hotel theres tons close by, but the restaurants and bars at the hotel are FREE, so its probably better to get your drinks at the hotel because its the same thing anyway, but free.

  3. oh I've been to Cuba 6 times and it's simply amazing. So much to see. I LOVE it there. Santiago de Cuba is the best. I love it there. The hotels that I have stayed at there were surrounded by mountains and the sights are beautiful. Really just simply beautiful. I would go back there any time.

  4. cuba is a great place to visit and to have fun. cuba is one of the safest places in the world. sure, it is reminiscent of the Eastern european countries before the Iron curtain fell - a state-run regime. junior clerks can wield enormous power because they are employed in an official capacity. but typical crime is not evident.

  5. The place you're searching for is ....Havana. Havana has all you want... lot's of colonial buildings, many tourist attractions a

busy and great nightlife, good restaurants, excellent bars,

food markets, the salsa dancing , Havana university, and nice beaches too ( 15km from the centre)

A good hotel in central Havana is hotel Inglaterra( 4 star) or hotel Parque Central ( a five star) in this case you stay close to the Old city and in the middle of the action. The hotel Nacional in the better Vedado district is nice too. If you like the real Cuban life forget Varadero and the all in resorts it's all artificial. 6. If you go to Varadero or Santiago those places are great but limited for what you want to do and see.

It is so easy ! !   Just go to Habana City.

You will have dozens of wonderful hotels, in Vedado or Habana Vieja.

Plenty of mojitos and lots of fun every night, lots of restaurants, bars, discos, the famous Tropicana casino, etc.

If you like to be in the beach surounded by people from Italy, Germany, Russia, England and Spain, go to Varadero then.  If you like the Cuban ambiance, then just go to Playas del Este, next to Habana City, like Playa Santamaria or Bocaciega. Those beaches are beautiful.

Varadero is good to be there for one day.

Santiago is wonderful to be there for three days.

La Habana you need a whole life to enjoy it.

You can get a little room in a private Cuban family home. Go to internet and write:  casa particular Habana.  You will find lots of them.  Prices from 20 pesos convertibles per day, or go to Hotel Conde de Villanueva in Habana Vieja, this is one of the old palaces of the old city.

    Best luck.

  7. Varadero would be good because the town is right there with lots of night life minutes away.  Also excellent would be Trinidad. you fly into Cienfuegos and Trinidad is a great town again only minutes from Playa Ancon, a fantastic beach.  Check the links below for lots of info.

  8. Go to Havana

  9. If you want lots of buzz and lots of things to do, Habana is the place for you.  I've been there and there is always action, lots of bars, and you can stay in the National Hotel which is a 5 star hotel in Habana close to a lot of action.

If you want bars at night, shows, etc. then a resort is for you.  I would recommend going to a resort in Varadero, they have the nicest beach, and staying at an all inclusive one.  Then you can go around the resort without having to worry about how much money you have on you, and you can have as many drinks as you want and see a lot of shows.  I stayed at Sirenis la Salina along Varadero beach and it was all inclusive.  They have clubs open all night and it was all inclusive (alcohol included).  That is a good resort, however it is a large one so it means you have to walk a lot.
