Cuban boxer Erislandy Lara Santoya set to face Paul Williams – Boxing news
The Cuban professional boxer Erislandy Lara Santoya, who has been the 2005 amateur world champion at welterweight division, will be facing 29-year-old Southpaw stance Paul Williams in their 12-round bout on July 9, 2011 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic
City, New Jersey.
The former two-time WBO Welterweight Champion, Paul Williams has successfully defeated world-recognised champions in his career. The most considerable wins of the American professional boxer Paul Williams are against Winky Wright, Kermit Cintron, Carlos
Quintana, Antonio Margarito and Sergio Martinez.
The experienced Williams has fought 41 fights out of which he has won 39 competitive bouts including 27 knockout victories with 2 losses in his career. On the other hand, the Southpaw stance, Lara is a young boxing prospect.
Paul ‘The Punisher’ Williams is going to make his first appearance after losing through a second round knockout decision against Argentinean Middleweight contender Sergio Martinez in November 2010 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Martinez
won the WBC Middleweight title in the process.
The 28-year-old Middleweight contender, Erislandy Lara is now coming to the ring after his 10-round draw to Carlos Molina. The two fighters were face to face on March 25, 2011 at the Cosmopolitan Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Talking about his last fight, Lara said, “I took the last fight lightly and had a bad night. Anybody can have a bad night. I was not prepared mentally or physically that night. It was more difficult than I had planned for, and Molina is a very good fighter.”
Talking about his next opponent Williams said, “For me, that is the best guy to get in the ring with, a guy that can take a punch. People that think I’m washed up, I can prove to them it’s not so. That is going to be the statement me getting back in the
ring to prove my point.”
Hopefully, the fight between the two will be interesting and entertaining to watch. Let’s see how it goes.
