Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes officially joins Oakland Athletics – MLB News
Finally the Oakland Athletics have announced and confirmed that Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes’ is coming in the franchise with a four year $36 million deal.
The announcement arrived on Saturday when the top Athletics’ management told the reporters with utter jubilation of Cespedes’ arrival in the club. The A’s manager Bob Melvin later assured the fans saying the management know how to make best out of former
Cuban International, who recently received the Dominican Republic nationality after defecting from the country.
"Until we feel like he's ready. We'll work him out tomorrow and see how he looks on a baseball field," Melvin said.
Cespedes, who was earlier given the assurance of playing here in the Athletics, has always spoken well for the club.
"My first goal is to make the team and stay healthy all season, and little by little, I'll make more goals," Cespedes told the media in February. "I've been preparing every day for this, and I 100 percent believe that I am ready for the Major Leagues. I
have a lot of international experience and experience at a high level. I'm very confident in my abilities."
The A’s management are schedule to introduce Cespedes on Sunday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium in an official news conference where general manager Billy Beane is also expected to come.
Some inside sources have reported that Cespedes’ late introduction in the media is related to the visa issues, but as soon as he received US visa, the A’s’ management no longer waited and given him the official deal after a brief medical.
Currently the Athletics’ entire roster busy in Arizona in 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training while this addition of Cespedes’ talent will make the roster stronger.
Experts also believe that Cespedes’ arrival in the Athletics roster is a healthy sign and as soon as the next season starts, the difference of his presence will be witnessed. Already the A’s management had made strategy as how to utilise Cespedes and on
which number. Number 3 and 4 slots are almost empty with no major player doing well from past three years and it is expected that Cespedes will be given the responsibility to play on one of these two vital spots.
