Cubs’ Garza resumes throwing after he was shut down in July – MLB News
The past season did not go as planned; but considering the developments this offseason, Matt Garza is all set to be part of the Chicago Cubs’ rotation. He has reportedly started throwing for the first time since he was shut down in mid-July.
His recent tweet about the progress he has made is a thoroughly good news not only for the club but also for the fans who have been waiting anxiously for his return: "1st day throwing the baseball! Felt great, #keepitslow! Looking forward to day#2 #GoCubsGo” read his tweet.
Garza was shut down on July 21 after he had right elbow problems. The Cubs, which were already struggling defensively, had to see for some other pitcher to replace him. Garza finished the season with 18 starts, having 5-7 record and posting 3.91 ERA.
Although the season did not end well for the Cubs, wherein they lost over 100 games, the club hopes that the moves they have made lately will pay off greatly in the MLB `13. Strengthening the rotation is one of the plans they have assiduously worked upon recently.
Last month, they made deals with Scott Feldman and Scott Baker. With Matt Garza returning, the rotation will have the right combination of starters for the Cubs.
Prior to his being shut down in mid-July, Matt Garza was rumoured to be on the trading block. However, as things did not go the way the Cubs were anticipating, the plan did not materialize.
Now that Garza is all set to be back, his would be a role of veteran given the young lot that the Cubs installed after trading some senior players in July.
Garza is happy where he actually is; as he had once said: “I'm having fun here, taking it all in. I just wanted to come out here and make the best of it. It was exciting just to play on the same field as these guys.
These guys are so awesome. We have a really good team. That's one reason I wish I wasn't a senior. We are all really good friends and we always stay positive.”
