Cubs Josh Vitters and Brett Jackson will have their first game at Wrigley on Friday – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs will take on the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday, August 9 as the two teams will play a four-game series at Wrigley Field. This will be the first game for both youngsters Josh Vitters and Brett Jackson – the newly promoted players in the Majors at Wrigley.
While both have previously been at home park before, this will be first ever experience of the playing in the ballpark. The two also have their respective views on the feelings they have about their first ever game at Wrigley Field.
"It won't be as big of a breathtaking event as it was for others when it was the first time you walk into that place," Jackson said. "Fenway's like that, too. I remember walking into there and it's like, 'Wow, this is cool.' I guarantee you it'll still be pretty incredible."
The four-game series comes at a time when the Cubs lost their eighth consecutive game on Wednesday as the San Diego Padres swept the three-game series. While all the players are looking forward to adjusting and improving, these two youngsters will probably feel more pressure.
But Vitters maintains he is hardly nervous. It is rather excitement that he feels prior to this big game.
"I'm not at all nervous," Vitters said. "I'm just excited to get there. It's going to be a big moment. I've been waiting for it for a long time. It's going to be a pretty surreal experience to be back there and playing for the team."
What is interesting to note here is the fact that the Reds have also lost their last four games, a slump that was likely not anticipated. However, comparatively, the Reds come with a stronger combination of players that the Cubs need to keep in their mind.
Both Vitters and Jackson were promoted to Majors on Sunday. The two have been trying to perform better at a time when the Cubs as a whole have not been able to do well in the Division.
The Cubs will try to put enough resistance against the Reds in the four-game series and both Vitters and Jackson will have their part to play in bolstering the team’s offence.
