Cubs acquire Manuel Corpas – MLB Update
The Chicago Cubs have made another move to sign a contract with reliever, Manuel Corpas, adding a supposedly effective reliever in the bullpen. While the official announcement is awaited, there are a lot of interesting features about the reliever that are
known to baseball circles.
One of the well known facts is the player’s inability to show up in any game since 2010. What kept him away from pitching was a Tommy John surgery that he had in 2010. On the other hand, what allowed him to be among the prominent elite of relievers was his
magnificent feat in 2007 when he was a part of Colorado Rockies.
Back then while the Rockies made their way into the World Series finals, the reliever had no less than 19 saves for the club with an impressive ERA of 2.08. The player was unable to show up in the regular season after he underwent a surgery, which also has
raised some serious questions over whether he would be effective or not. The player’s instrumentality depends upon the resurgence he makes in the upcoming season.
Commenting on this move, Joshua Huffman – a prominent Cubs’ commentator, said that he can prove to be a good replacement for Sean Marshal, provided if the move aims towards replacement at the moment.
Huffman wrote, “I'm not sure that this is supposed to be an answer to that departure. Corpas is just trying to make his way back into MLB following that surgery. He'd be a fantastic addition to the bullpen if he could rediscover what made him so good during
his first two seasons. Of course, we're talking about 2006 and 2007. It's very unlikely that he'll ever play like he did during that pennant run.”
Although not much is expected from the reliever who was conspicuously absent from baseball owing to his injury last year, Corpas – nonetheless, would be a good addition in the team. What needs to be seen is if he will be able to give the Cubs a newly found
momentum after the club recently underwent great changes.
