Cubs exchange a reliever with the Reds – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs on Wednesday were reported to be considering trading their reliever with that of Cincinnati Reds. Apparently, the Cubs shall have Travis Wood in exchange of Sean Marshal. Both are left-handed relievers.
Interestingly, they both are minor leaguers, and the deal has almost been completed apart from the pending physicals. The Cubs’ move comes at a time when it was reported that the club would be relying on the prospects for the roster in the upcoming season.
Wood’s presence in the Chicago Cubs would be reassuring given the fact that there is some sense of ambiguity as to what roles will be assigned to the pitchers in the bullpen. What is important is the fact that he will be staying in the club up until 2016.
Wood kicked off his professional career in the Major League last year. His record remained generally satisfying. He maintained an ERA of 3.51 in the 17 games that he appeared in. The player had a record of 5 victories, losing 4 of the games.
What upset the balance for the Chicago Cubs in the recently concluded regular season was its back-to-back defeats. Similarly, the club has not won any World Series title for over 90 years now. Mike Quade, the former manager of the Chicago Cubs, was dismissed
due to unsatisfactory performance of the club.
The new setup has changed many a thing now. Add to it the fact that Cubs vice president of player personnel, Oneri Fleita has a lot of hopes from the combination of minor and major league players now.
“Combining winning and development, we finished the regular season with the youngest team at every level we played in,” Fleita said. “Our system is deep with a lot of guys who'll play in the Major Leagues, but maybe a little lacking in a deep pool of guys
who will be impact players.”
With so many changes that have recently come the Chicago Cubs’ way, fans eagerly await the team’s encounters with rival teams. How strong the team has become will certainly be finalised then.
