He was a starter in the minors and how much worse can he do than Marquis.

  1. Even if you want that.....its not gonna happen. First of all that would mean doing what the yankees did with Joba and making him slowly and slowly pitch more and anyway there is no need for a good 5th starter! By the time he's ready they wont need him in the rotation(playoffs)

  2. I'd prefer Marquis because you know what you're going to get.

  3. no no no no not a good idea. samardzija can throw really really hard, but it's not that many pitches that he can throw. i'd rather take marquis and at least try to outscore them in 5-7 innings then let tha bullpen take over, which, if u remember, will have sammy in it

  4. I dont really think so, I think thats a project for next year. Right now Jason Marquis is at least giving us a chance to win games. Yesterday, he only gave up 3 runs in 6 innings. And Jeff Samardzija just came up, thats alot to ask out of a player who just got called up. So right now, I say no but only because Jeff just came up. Right now, Jason isnt doing a great job or a terrible job. But if he does start doing a terrible job, than I wouldnt bet against Sean Marshall taking his place because as we all know, Lou loves Sean Marshall

  5. Marquis just needs run support.....the Cubs never score when hes on the mound.

  6. I don't know that i want to throw Samardzija into the fire as a starter this year. I think it is great that we Cubs fans can now complain about Marquis since over most of the last 30-40 years would be considered

a solid #3 guy for us.

While he does have some Bad games in which he gives us little chance to win without an offensive explosion. There are some good games in which we should win easily. Like the guy above said he doesn't get much run support. As # 5's go now a days he is pretty darn good believe it or not.

But should he get hurt I think Gaudin fills in and does just as well or better.

Samardzjia is pretty valuable where he is right now.

  7. who cares the cubs suck..

100 years are you kidding me?

  8. No team has a good fifth starter, and Marquis (once again) won't be in the playoff rotation. So don't worry about him. There's no need to rush a guy up from the minors in hopes of upgrading a healthy, serviceable 5th starter.

  9. Im a red sox fan, but I really like that Samarzidja. I'm really glad that he picked baseball over football, I think he'll have a great career. But I don't think it will be with the Cubs. They could try to make him a starter again, but they'll probably end up trading him, because he is a very valuable player. I would like to see him as a closer, but you know he won't close once Kerry Wood comes back. He'll be wearing a different jersey before too long, but I think that he'll move into the rotation once Wood is back.
