On some of my plants there is a white foam, which we called the cuckoo's spit for years. Does anyone know how it gets there and what causes it?

  1. The larva of the froghopper insect lives inside....put some on your hand and run your finger through it and you'll find a little soft green insect. When these mature they become brown and jump like frogs.

  2. Yeah, it's got larvae inside, if you take some you see little yellow things inside. :) It's just put there for the larvae and to protect them.

  3. It is the lava of some insect which spurts this stuff out.

  4. It is the lava of an insect, the froghopper I think, it sucks the sap of the plant and foams it up to form a protective mound. It does not really harm the plant.

  5. caused by the spittle bug....

spray it off with the hose....
