that cuckoo wasps are solitary insects and yet i have been finding so many in my house or around my house? i have a cockroach problem in my kitchen as ell as carpenter bees drilling into my porch as well as a bunch of other types of nests in my proch so could it be possible that they are around because of these other insects/bugs to lay their eggs on them? according to some research the cuckoo wasps stay close to their hosts so they can lay eggs on so im just taking a shot in the dark here any one know the answer please let me know cuz its rather annoying waking up and having to kill two of these wasps every other day.

thank you

  1. There are mud wasps in my house too and they too have lots of nesting sites.

One is right behind my computer's speaker s***w hole. I am the least bothered about it as they are just doing their job. They aren't bothering me.

One has built on a traveling bag which has not been used for a long time.

    So i leave them alone.

    You should do that too.

OR this is what you can do -

Since they are finding spiders in your house and good nesting sites -

The first, and perhaps best, suggested controls are mechanical. Inspect door and window casings in the house for closeness of fit.

Repair holes large enough to admit spiders.

Other areas to inspect include entry points of water pipes and electrical lines.

Caulk any cracks and other small openings.

Keep woodpiles and debris away from your house.

In storage areas, put boxes up off the floor and away from walls.

Seal boxes with tape to keep spiders from living inside them. In general, cleaning up clutter will mean you have fewer spiders.

Pruning vegetation away from your house and keeping the area next to the foundation clear will also make your house less attractive to spiders.

Outdoor lighting sometimes attracts insects, which in turn attracts spiders.

You can move outdoor lighting away from windows and doors if this is a problem around your home.

  2. Each species of cuckoo wasp is a predator on a specific species of wasp/bee or other insect.  If you identify the species of cuckoo wasp you can identify the species of insect.  Get rid of the prey and you will get rid of the wasp.  You can eliminate carpenter bees by painting over the desirable wood.  You should also determine the damage they have done.  If they have infested support beams you could loose your porch.

  3. Bummer! Maybe if you spray for insects around the house you will get rid of the wasps by default. lol  Get rid of their prey or host or whatever and you get rid of the wasps.

  4. The wasp are just a minor annoyance, just leave them alone.  However, the carpenter bees maybe causing real significant damage.  You better do something about them
