Cue Card up for the new direction towards flat horse racing
The reason that the horse racing industry has been able to thrive and flourish, specifically when it was in its golden ages, is because the tracks, grounds and fields are never restricted and neither restrained for new talent to come up, be it a jockey,
trainer or of course a horse.
An upcoming talent on its way seems to be Cue Card who has been trained by Colin Tizzard.
He is a five-year-old out of King’s Theatre and Wicked Crack, both Irish.
He has had seven starts since last year and has won four of them, coming second twice. He has always been ridden by jockey Joe Tizzard.
He has been in hurdle racing ever since he started and has been able to build up a pretty decent record out of it. He holds the enviable title of being the winner of the 2010 Champion Bumper.
He was almost immaculate with his first two starts over hurdle but was then beaten by Menorah, Al Ferof and Spirit Son at Cheltenham and Aintree in his last three starts.
The five-year-old has time and again proved how remarkable he really is and has let his true potential surface more than just occasionally.
His strength and performance has been improving gradually. He has proved himself to be a reliable contestant for flat racing.
Even his pedigree is reflective of that.
The horse's trainer said, "He's a real chasing type out of a mare who was a staying chaser, so we didn't want to waste another season over hurdles. I'm not sure where he'll start off but it will be ground dependant, as we don't want to risk him on firm autumn
ground”.
The connections now have decided to contest the horse for chasing as hurdle racing does not really deliver justice to his capabilities. He needs to ‘grow’ and conquer what he has not yet ventured into.
"We've been chatting about which route we're going to go over the past couple of days and we've decided we'll go chasing”, said Tizzard.
Thus, the trainer is anxious to head on with the chasing campaign so that at least the horse starts getting recognized and it would also help relevant people getting aware about his untapped roaring talent.
The campaign would also assist in outlining the desired career orientation for Cue Card.
Not that Colin Tizzard is looking out for a big time race and a prestigious title, for now he will even settle for a small race just to get the horse acknowledged into flat racing.
