Cue Card’s connections confident about the King George challenge
The race that has become a reconsidering point for almost all the stables, King George VI Chase at Kempton, has opened up all new avenues for the Colin Tizzard stable as the connections are completely confident about the ability of their under charge to take control of the trip.
His versatile racing style suits all the ground conditions and his fast speedy going will really work in his advantage in the King George contest.
It has been more than a month since the six-year-old bay gelding raced and when the stable jockey, Joe Tizzard, took him for a ride, he was very happy to find that the form of King’s Theatre’s gelding has not deteriorated if anything else, he has improved.
"I gave him a school on Monday morning. It was the first time I'd sat on him since Exeter and he felt superb," he told At The Races.
"He's just ticking over to the race now. He's done all his work and seems in good nick. He's won on all sorts of ground, but he's going into an unknown trip.
"The more rain, the more stamina is going to come into use for the King George, but I'm confident he'll get the trip and he'll handle the ground."
The six-year-old bay gelding out of, Wicked Crack, qualified as the runner-up of the Grade 1 Racing Post Arkle Challenge Trophy Chase on 13th March, 2012 at Cheltenham race course over two miles.
He missed the race against the mighty Nicky Henderson trained, Sprinter Sacre, who was entered as the favourite and won by seven lengths.
The second position was in the closing race of the last season and his cracking race for the 2012 campaign was the Grade 2 Sportingbet Haldon Gold Cup Chase on 6th November, 2012 at Exeter race course over two miles and 1 ½ furlongs.
The testing ground conditions have witnessed the seizure of many entries, the Henry De Bromhead trained Sizing Europe had to be ruled out, First Lieutenant is not contesting anymore and Al Ferof is bound due to the tendon injury that got him to discontinue the season.
Despite the plus points, Cue Card will have to look out for the Nicky Henderson trained, Long Run, and the bomb shell from the Paul Nicholls’ stable, Kauto Stone.
