Question:

Cue stick - How do I take care of my cue stick's joint?

I bought a Viking cue (VM18) about 7 years ago. I special ordered a double threaded stainless steel joint. Now it is giving me a little bit of resistence when I s***w it together.

Is there anything I can do to give me a smoother connection without ruining the joint? Graphite? Oil? Thanks a bunch.

  1. First off I would take a wire brush to the threads. Either a brasss one or a steel one and lightly run it around the threads. Then put a light coat of oil (W-D-40 is good, butter, vegetable oil) or even rub the threads on your skin by your hair line., Anything for a lubricant. Your male and female threads may have gotten a little oxidzation on them. make sure they are clean before you lubricate them.

    Should work fine then!

  2. I've always used a little butter though I'm sure wax or any oil will do the trick.

  3. for stainless steel I'd use WD-40 or silicone lubricant.  just don't get either one on the wood of the shaft or the butt because the solvent will damage it.

  4. if u have had it for seven years you should just treat yourself to a new one.

  5. Make sure it's clean before you do anything. Clean it with rubbing alcohol and a piece of cotton cloth. If the threads are not worn or damaged, you may want to try and find some joint protectors to prevent damage in the future.

  6. Sounds as though the threads are worn nothing you can do

    Edit

You could whack a load of super glue in the joint and s***w it together one last time and use as a one piece cue
