Cue weights?

What is the weight of your main playing cue and why do you prefer that particular weight? I prefer lighter cues, 18-19 oz. personally. Just curious about your preference. M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

  1. All of the cues i shoot with are 19.5 oz. , 13 mm. with LePro hard leather tips.  My jump break cue is 18 oz. and also 13mm. but with an extra hard Triangle tip with a pad under it. My cue repairman said that pad will help protect the ferrule. Don't know if thats really necessary but it doesn't hurt anything or cost anything so what the hey! I prefer this setup just because I've been using it for so long and have a lot of confidence in it.

  2. Most of mine are 20 oz my ( fishing pole ) is 20.5

I just like the feel of a 20 .But no more I dont want to feel like im haveing to carry it instead of holding it.Unless butt heavy then forget it.

For the very rare game of snooker a 17 or 18 I just make myself think I get a lighter touch with them but really dont.

  3. My cue is 18.95 oz, but I like to break w/ a heavier cue. The heavier cue seems to put more weight behind my shot giving me a better spread on the break.  Not sure if there's any rhyme or reason to it.  It's just a personal preference.

  4. My play and break cues both weigh 19 to 19.25. I like the hand speed for breaking and have found lighter or heavier I tend to lose continuity in transfer of backward to forward motion. In short my stroke is purer with a 19

  5. I use a 19 oz playing cue and an 18 oz break cue.

I feel I have more control over the lighter cues.

*Well, that's what I'm telling myself right now anyway*

  6. I play (and break also) with a 19 oz.  because it feels right on my hands. Heavier and I'll feel I'm lacking sensitivity or feedback from the shot, and when the cue is lighter I feel I can't deliver power, as if the cue ball absorbed all of it.

  7. 20oz playing, 19oz breaking. No particular reason, it's just what I like. My break cue is slightly less to help generate more speed.
