Question:

Cult of social indoctrination?

In my life, i have spoken with and dealt with people whom have often tried to include me in their social life, and once or twice they have tried to influence my own in order to achieve short-term desperate humour.

However, there have been individuals whom, although possessing a charismatic mannerism and reasonable emotional intelligence, who have never once been able to 'take a step back' and 'let things be' - the kind of meddling, obsessive individual who can't let things go until they're certain that they can wash their hands of the issue without fear of social reprimand.

Such people, i feel, are leading themselves and others into a mentality in which this type of behaviour is acceptable, while at the same time clouding the greater implications of their actions.

It is something that's out of control, and in all honesty i'm more than willing to wait for them to go down with the ship we're all in, but i can't help but shake the feeling that this selfish social proving grounds of ideals is leading society into a spiral of self-defeatism.

  1. You have some interesting thoughts.  I will add only a comment.

Who we are is not determined by what others perceive us to be.  People can rant and rave about how they perceive the world to be or how it should be, but that doesn't make it true.

We can listen to their opinions and analyze them for merit and imitation, if that seems appropriate.  But, we are certainly not forced to adhere to the precepts or concepts of others.  We can and will make the final decision about these matters.

But, we need not decry their need to expound on their notions.  We just need not agree or act as they perceive we should.
