Cultural Difference?

I am a german american living in socal. And people make fun of the fact that my opa fought in WWII for n**i germany. He himself was not a n**i. And so they call me a n**i just becuz i am proud of my heritage. Now if someone were to make fun of mexicans or the chinese they would get all defensive, but sense not many people in Socal are german i have no support. WOUld this happen in places in the east coast like pennsylvania?

You can be proud of your German inheritance. But not of ideologies n**i or memories of World War II where the madness of a man I take to the light wall to but of 60.000.000 million people.

There are ignorant people everywhere who will insult you for no good reason.  No one should seriously consider you responsible for anything that your ancestors did, no matter what the nature of the action was.

Since I've only visited -- and never lived in Socal -- I can't comment on how judgmental people there may be.  But I can tell you that you are more likely to find people tolerant of your situation where there are more people of backgrounds similar to yours -- and there are plenty of people of German heritage in Pennsylvania (and Maryland).

Woah, I swear that most of the population is German, Germanic, or says that they are. It's stupid that they call you a n**i, but I think that they are just making fun of you because you keep talking about it, or some other reason.

Sure you can be proud  of being german or anything.  It doesn't mean you have anything to do with n**i.  So what's the problem?

If they laugh, let them laugh.  Tell them you are glad that you make them happy.

You should be able to be proud of your heritage. The establishment still demands that Germans be ashamed of what happened 63 years ago but has nothing to say about all the people who have died since then from other mass murdering regimes. Well, I've decided to stand up to the establishment by saying I care more about the people who died from Idi Amin than I do the people who died from Hitler. Now I'll probably be accused of anti-semitism.

this does not happen on the east coast.  Plus u can not count ur grandfather as a n**i.  A n**i is a political party that took over Germany.  It does nothing with race issues what so ever.  Every culture has something bad.

Russians- wet crazy with communism

Jews- fascist and is currently doing genocide to Palestinians

Cuban- try to buy nukes

British- snooty

People just ignorant don't pay attention on them. And in my opinion you shouldn't be proud of being German because you've been born German, God didn't choose which cultural you would be. So think about it.
