Cummins backing Australia to come good in the ICC World T20 – Cricket News Round-up – September 10, 2012 – Part 1
Australian young fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 rankings.
The Kangaroos lie just ahead of last positioned http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 and Ireland ranked above them in 8th and 9th respectively. Their current placing has come as a result of some below-par showings this year, where they have
won just two of their last six matches.
However, a win in the final T20I against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, played today at Dubai, could again see them climb up to 9th but Cummins is clearly looking beyond the rankings, owing to the depth in the current group.
“In terms of ranking for Twenty20, I don’t think we are anywhere near where we should be. We are a much better side than that and I think in the World Cup we will show that,” Cummins said.
Indian opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447, said that it is only a matter of time before he turns around his poor Test form.
The left-hander had a lean time in the longer format over the past two years, which included two uneventful away tours of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and Australia. He started the current season strongly, which includes an impressive ODI tour of Sri Lanka, but again failed
to make a big score in the two-match Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.
"I scored a century and two fifties in five one-day internationals against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 before the New Zealand Tests," Gambhir said. "I realise I didn't convert the starts in the New Zealand Tests, but it is just a question of time before I get a big one.”
Former Australian bowling coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-John-McDermott-c51704, has backed his newest outfit Ireland to give his native side a run for their money when both meet in the World T20 in Sri Lanka.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, and will play their opening match against the Aussies on September 19 at Colombo.
McDermott, who was recently appointed the bowling coach of the Irish contingent on a short-term basis, is optimistic of Ireland’s chances owing to the balance in the current group.
