Cummins ruled out for the season – Cricket News Update
Pat Cummins, the Aussie teenage fast bowler, has been ruled out of the upcoming home summer due to a stress fracture of the back.
The player picked up the injury during his stint with Sydney Sixers in the recently concluded Champions League T20, and was thoroughly examined by the national team physio after he arrived back home.
Upon assessment, it was revealed that the 19-year-old will miss his second consecutive home summer where the Kangaroos will lock horns with South Africa, Sri Lanka and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760. He was already expected to be overlooked for the opening two Tests against the Proteas, given his workload in the past couple of months, along with his limited first-class exposure, but was likely to be a part of the third Test at WACA.
However, another lengthy period on the sidelines beckons for the teenage pacer, who is also in danger of missing tours of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and England next year.
Cummins played his only Test match last year against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, along with a trip to the Caribbean.
A side strain then cut short his much anticipated comeback on tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and the World T20 campaign. He then played a pivotal role in helping his franchise to their maiden CL T20 triumph but aggravated the injury in the final.
"He had a little bit of back pain towards the back end of the Champions League, which wasn't a big concern," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Kountouris-c43123, the team physio, said. "He played all the games and was training and was functioning okay. But because of his age and his history we decided to investigate it and unfortunately he's got an early stage stress fracture of his spine, which is disappointing.
"http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Iftikhar-Ali-Khan-Pataudi-Nawab-of-c64075 had a spine bone stress injury a few years ago but the current injury is new and in an entirely different part of the spine. We expect he will recover fully from this injury and will be closely monitored to determine his return to the playing field, but expect that he will miss most of the 2012-13 domestic cricket season."
