Cung Le eyeing UFC’s first win against debutant Patrick Cote at UFC 148 – UFC News
Cung Le, the former Strikeforce middleweight champion, who is eager to grab his first win in Ultimate Fighting Championship, will take on debutant Patrick Cote, in a three-round bout which will be held on UFC 148 on July 7, 2012.
Le is dying to grab a win in Mixed Martial Art’s flagship organisation before he retires. This might be a golden opportunity for the veteran Vietnamese-American brawler. Cung, 40, has also displayed his fighting capabilities in the sport of Kick boxing.
He later on became a part of Strikeforce to pursue his mixed martial art career.
Cung made his UFC debut in UFC 139 against one of the best middleweights in UFC, Wanderlei Silva. Even in that bout, Cung proved that he has talent and he can move on in the division to collide with the ace names.
Unfortunately, in the second round, Cung lost his grip over the bout and eventually succumbed to Silva’s knees and punches. This will be Cung’s second UFC bout and the former middleweight champion is a bit emotional about it.
With increasing age, Cung also faces the nightmare of retirement, the reason why before hanging his gloves Le is pursuing a win in UFC. During a media interaction, when asked as to what are his thoughts about saying adios to the sport, Cung stated, “We’ll
see (about retirement). I never look ahead. I’m one of those guys, I’m in the moment. Every day I wake up is a blessing. I have this day, and I’m going to live in this day. I can’t look toward tomorrow because tomorrow’s not promised.”
When inquired as to what will a win at UFC means to him, Le in an emotional manner stated, “If I cry (if I win) – Im going to try not to. That's how big it would be. It's a big deal.” Cung also shared his thoughts about Patrick and stated, “I’m here to win,
and I expect to win this fight against Patrick Cote. He’s a very confident guy – almost cocky. And that’s good.”
At the moment, Patrick has a bit upper hand as far as experience is concerned. The 32-year-old has been in a total of 24 mixed martial art bouts and will enter for the very first time in UFC octagon.
Cung, on the other hand, has been in a total of nine mixed martial art and 17 kick boxing bouts. Le possesses a flawless unbeaten resume at Kick boxing style of brawling but in mixed martial art he has received two losses.
The bout will definitely be an exciting one and will take place on the undercard headlined by Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen bout.
