The Merseyside outfit have failed to make it into the Champions League competition next season, and currently find themselves at the eighth spot in the league table. However, they will go into the match against the Blues on Saturday in a bid to record a
historic domestic cup double, having already claimed the League Cup title in February.
The 26-year old, who arrived at Anfield from Newcastle United in August last year, admitted his side’s failure in their Premier League campaign, but felt nevertheless that a win on Saturday will transform their forgettable season into a memorable one.
He told reporters, “It's true that we are disappointed with not having won a Champions League place for next season, but I think the pain will be lessened by winning two titles in the cups.”
Liverpool have already beaten Chelsea twice this season, once in a league match at Stamford Bridge and their other win against the Blues came in the quarterfinal of the Carling Cup. However, the Spaniard refused to pick any favourites before the game.
“The two teams are under pressure because it's a big final and we are two clubs with a lot of history, and therefore both of us will be obliged to win the title.” he added.
The midfielder also cautioned his side against the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707, pointing out that both the strikers have been in sublime form recently.
Besides, he praised Luis Suarez for his consistency since arriving at Anfield, and backed his team-mate Andy Carroll to come up good in the final, despite being short of goals this season.
“I know Andy Carroll well and he is clearly improving. Strikers shouldn't be judged only by goals but also by the work they do for others. And with Carroll's work, lots of chances are created for his team-mates.”
The midfielder also justified his decision of opting to move to Liverpool, despite the Magpies impressive current season, by mentioning that he has already tasted cup win with the Reds in his first full season.
