Cupboard DIY Job?

One of my kitchen cupboard doors has come off and basically now the s***w holes have opened up so wide that theres no way id be able to use them again.

The alternative would be to make new holes in the cupboard but this would mean that the brackets on the door would also have to move, there must be another way so...

What would you recommend I do to get this door back on?

  1. You can fix it by taking some tooth picks and wood glue and fill the hole until it is the right size again. If you decide to fill it completely you will need to pre-drill for the s***w. Let the glue and the toothpicks dry completely before you s***w the door back on.

  2. All of the above will work but as the doors are probably made from MDF or chipboard here's another choice, take the hinge out of the door, make the hole slightly bigger, mix some two part epoxy filler, pop the hinge back and when it sets it's never going to move again.

  3. Cut a plug of wood a fraction wider than the hole and with a little glue hammer into the hole cut it flush and replace the screws

  4. The easiest is to use wood filler which come in a tube, it hardens like wood and can be screwed into as if the whole door was wood.

One tip is to 'key' the holes the shape to hold the filler in place to give it a better grip when it hardens.

You will be able to get this filler from any good DIY shop.

  5. Make the hole large enough to take a small plastic rawl plug, then put the s***w in and tighten..........done.

Votes against this but it works, all the bits about filler in the hole do NOT work, it pulls out with usage.

  6. You can get a super hard filler (which when set can be drilled into ) and you fill the holes with that. When set just drill new s***w holes.

Can't remember off hand the name of the filler I used but B+Q have it.

I did this 4 years ago and the cupboards are used daily, it worked for me.
