Our landlord said he has attempted to repair this before but it can't be fixed, it has to remain a cupboard door, then a fridge door.

  1. I don't think anyone could answer this without seeing some pictures.

Cupboard doors are usually part of a wall not attached to a refrigerator?

  3. Hi, there is usually a lever system between the fridge door and the cupboard boor so that opening the cupboard will in turn pull the fridge door open. It could be this is missing or damaged. Or may just need reconnecting. Its fiddly but certainly not impossible.

    A picture would be useful.

I've seen someone fit a tiny hook inside the cupboard and fixed this to the fridge door with a piece of string so that the two opened together. But closing meant an unpleasant clunk as the cupboard door hit the fridge door.

    Good luck.

  4. A friend of mine had this problem, and asked several carpenters for their advice. None would help, all saying that the job was "too fiddly", or "not worth the time and effort". In the end my friend fixed it himself.

"Do it right" has obviously not come across built-in kitchen fitments before, so let me assure him that this is a perennial problem with many households. The same problem arises when the 'fridge is either repaired or replaced. Neither I nor my friend have yet found a carpenter willing to help.

    Sorry to be so unhelpful.
