Question:

Cupcakes with watered-down milk?

I'm making cupcakes (from scratch.. god help me!) and I did not have enough milk, maybe 3/5 of a cup, so I added water to the milk to make 1 full cup.

The mix tastes alright, will my lack of milk affect the baking of the cupcake or how the cupcake will come out?

  1. should b e no problem

  2. Yes, you should be fine substituting milk for you part milk-part water mixture.  The taste may not be as rich to the discriminating food lover, but for all practical purposes, it should be fine.

In fact, many vegans substitute water for milk on a 3/4 cup to 1 cup basis or 1 to 1 cup basis, depending on the recipe.  The texture or flavor may be slightly impacted, but for all practical purposes, everything should be fine.

Also, you may want to consider adding a some margarine or butter, along with the water, in the future.  The added fats add more flavor to your mix.
