Curious about cross country racing in HS?

I'm not sure if all schools are the same, but a general idea might help. When it comes to be race time, does your coach pick who goes to a meet or does everyone on the team race?

I'm just curious.

  1. at my school theres no teams varsity and then evryone who doesnt have a varsity time. depending on the meet depends on who goes

  2. When I was in High School how it worked was that everyone ran in the meets against other schools 1 vs. 1, but then during the invites (on the weekends), the top 7 runners would run Varsity and everyone else would run the Open race---there would also usually be a freshman/sophmore race in which the best 7 frosh/soph runner would participate. unless a frosh/soph was good enough to compete on the varsity level. Hope this helps. Good Luck

  3. My school is VERY small so whoever wants to run is very welcome to. However when it comes to the region meet it all changes only the fastest of the fast are able to run but dont worry that normally doesnt happen untill you have had lots of practices and lots of meets to prove yourself.

If you are asking because you are thinking about doing it then by all means GO FOR IT. It will be something you iwll NEVER regret no matter how slow you are you will love every minute of it. The coaches allways say "Cross Counrty is somthing that prepares you for life. Days on the cross country field are hard and long and days at work are just the same and once you run cross counrty you will be able to make it no matter what you do when you get older."

  4. Everyone.

We don't even try out for the team.

But I think that's because no one ever wants to do it.

  5. I run cross country for middle school and everyone ran at meets and the highschool team practiced with us and at meets everyone ran including varsity. The only reason you can't run at meets is either because you don't have your physical turned in or you haven't payed the fee to play.

  6. can't speak for all schools, the one i attended the entire cross country team went to the meet, all members participated

  7. wats a meet? in england whoever wants to run the race gets to run.

  8. My coach switches off who goes to each meet. i go to about every other meet. he will usually have like two different groups kind of. one of them goes to one meet and one goes the next time. the exception to that rule is that he usually makes the best runners go to more meets becuase we need them to improve the team time. we have too many people on my team for them all to go at once.
