Curious about inactive duty for the USMC?

i am going to boot camp in a week i was just wondering after your four years of active service can you chose not to go inactive or do you wait tell you served all eight years

  1. Absolutely! You don't have to do the 4 years of inactive service to reinlist and continue your active service. Just talk to the career planner once you get in.  


  2. After you serve your 4 years of active duty, the next 4 will be inactive reserves, unless you reenlist.  This basically means you need to keep the military updated on your current residence and you can't move out of the country.  Other than that, you're a full-fledged veteran once you leave that gate for the last time.
