Question:

Curitiba versus Sao Paulo: what's the difference?

I hear they are both very nice cities. But what is the difference in terms of lifestyle they offer? Is there a difference in demographics? My favorite city in the world so far is San Francisco, as I love the architecture, interesting neighborhoods, and mild climate.

Gracias. I am a Flying Dutchman looking for a city to call home.

  1. Hi Crazy Eagle,

Certainly there are many, many differences between the two cities. to begin with, Sao Paulo is the 2nd. biggest city in Southamerica, with all the speed, stress and rhythm associated with it, also with lots of options for entertainment and fun.

Curitiba is almost on the opposite side, but truly great in its own right.

Please check the two links bellow to have a bird's view of both cities......guess it all boils down to the lifestyle you wish to have...

  2. if money is no problem to you. In Sao Paulo you will have a very, very good life. Because you can live in a very good neighborhood quite safe, lots of good restaurants, better pizza in the world, the night life is amazing, lots of cultural places, huge shopping centers. The bad: Traffic, pollution,  not so safe.

  3. São Paulo is more chaotic than Curitiba, and they are not far from each other. São Paulo is such a huge city and it doesn't offer a good environment to live. There are a lot of people leaving São Paulo and Rio and moving to the south. I've been to São Paulo twice and I can't picture myself living there.

South Brasil is very organized, it is a lot different from the other areas in the country. Curitiba is a good city to live in, with a lot of interesting places to visit, great restaurants and pubs, it is not boring at all, we find a lot of great things to do in Curitiba, we can go to the beach and it is only one hour away.

  4. São Paulo is very big, the city, the state is great, and is the center business-oriented of all the country.

    NationalSecret.

  5. São Paulo é a capital do estado de São Paulo e Curitiba é a capital do Paraná. Curitiba está mais perto do mar, no estado do Paraná há um grande porto o de Paranaguá e em São Paulo o de Santos.

  6. First we are not Spanish speakers, lol. Here in Brazil we speak Portuguese, so it’s “Obrigado” and not “Gracias”. Many people make the same mistake, I just wanted to set you right.

It’s pretty obvious that what everybody has said so far is the answerer you were looking for. I live in São Paulo by the way. But I wish I could be living in Curitiba, but that is just me.

  7. Well, São Paulo is much bigger than Curitiba, as a result,  have much more traffic, crowded of people and noise.

My husband is dutch and he like to live in São Paulo (but he always complain of the noise and how can people can be so disrespect). First we used to live in south of Brazil as well (Joinville-Florianopolis), and I can tell that there the people is much more friendly, and there everything going smoothly, but there are not so many things to do like São Paulo (and I couldnt stay there).

    So:

São Paulo: crowded, traffic, but you have 24 hour things to do (SP is the city that never stops)

Curitiba: more peace, minus poor people, but minus jobs and things to do.
