Curlin and Bernardini colts, the prominent part of the bigger picture
Into the 2012 and both the Horses of the Year in 2009 and 2010 have foaled. Rachel Alexandra gave birth to Curlin’s colt in January while Zenyatta had her Bernardini’s colt in March.
Both the colts have the white star on their heads and both have already become celebrities. The pedigree that both come from is highly influential and oozes potential. Something that the mothers of these foals could not do is already being anticipated of
the foals; to race against one another. Both The Horse of the Year never got to encounter each other on the racing track.
As is mostly the case, the colts race when they turn two, the juveniles and here both will turn two together now as far as Zenyatta’s foal is concerned, both the dam and the sire started racing a while after turning two. Both raced their debuts after turning
three but then that is similar to what the sire of Rachel Alexandra’s foal did, even he did not race before he turned three.
So much for that, the horse racing fans will have to hold on for a while and for now just see the two growing, getting names and being trained into what they are already pioneers of.
The larger than life opportunity for the passionate is to see the two racing together, threatening, colliding and upsetting each other.
It is being assumed that under the guidance and mentoring of John Shirreffs and Steve Asmussen for Stonestreet, both the colts will end up being stabled in Southern California.
Reserving the honour and pleasure of being the debut track for the two most waited foals of 2012, the Santa Anita Park should already start drafting the outlines of the $ 1 million purse (in case both the colts show up) maiden race on 26th December
2014.
The race can be hosted at Del Mar or Saratoga too.
Planning is what the race courses need to start doing even from now. How much hype and publicity the racing of two will create has no dimensions and how much purse would need to get offered, is not decided too.
However the two have fan following already and who knows what they will end up achieving once they start racing.
