Curling my hair with a straightening iron; it isn't working?

I watched a tutorial on youtube but it isn't working for me. All it is doing is kinking my hair or leaving it the same way it was. Is there a trick to this?

yeah... get a curling iron... straightening irons r 4 straightening ur hair, thats y its called a straightening iron ... duh

well you can try putting on a hair oil that can hold your hair in place but first you need to comb it straight...

If it's kinking, you might be turning the curling iron the wrong way (back over the part that goes up and down). Sometimes when I'm in a hurry I turn the iron the opposite way and it puts a kink in it instead of nice ringlets (well, back when I used to have long hair, at least). Try rolling the opposite way to see if you get kinks. You might also need a bigger curling iron or to not use as much hair in the iron (what size are you using?). Also make sure it's hot enough. If it's not doing anything, you might already have wonderfully curly hair (luck you!), but it sounds like it's either not hot enough or you're taking too much hair at a time. Good luck. Keep trying! You'll get it right!!!

Edit: I just re-read your post. You probably need a CURLING iron instead of a straightening iron!!! If you use a round curling iron, you'll likely have better results.

Dont listen to the other person, u can curl ur hair with a straightening iron. i have the corioliss straightener and thats why i bought it, cuz the guy in the mall curled my hair with it. You can do the ringlet curls. Try to have ur hair clean with nothing on it (no gel, hairspray, leave in cond. etc) and get a small piece and start at the top, grab ur hair with the iron and start pulling downand aas u pull curl it like a curling iron, it should work, just keep trying it. It really works. Try to go to corioliss.com cuz i think they have a tutorial on their site on how to do it

your straightning iron has to be shaped a certain way. if its not then your hair obviously wont curl.

after all, straight and curl are opposites
