  1. It's Dong....Vietnamese Dong (VND)

Normal Exchange rate when yo wanna change from USD to VND is about 1 USD = 16,000 VND

Yes they do accept USD in HCMC, but it's better for you to get a VND

  2. they use dong so 1 us dollar is about 16,000 dong

  3. Both USD and VND are accepted in HCMC, depending on the place. Tourist areas and high-end food outlets accept both currencies, but the markets or smaller stalls don't. When bringing USD to Vietnam, it's best to bring the $50 or $100 bills as the exchange rate for smaller denomination USDs are less. Also, ensure that your USDs are genuine, because the penalty for possessing or spending a fake USD is 1 year's jail per fake note.

  4. Yes, but in small shops or restaurants, they don't take it.

  5. the currency in vietnam is the Dong.  1 US dollar is about 16,000 dong.  most hotels will quote their rates in dollar and you can pay using dollar. Outside the hotel, some shops especially around the tourist areas will take dollar. But if you are going to a local coffee shop or convenience store or supermarket, they won't accept dollars.

  6. You are right Sleep, but if you do want to exchange US $$ to Viet dollars, make sure you don't crumbles them.  A mint US money will give you better exchange rate.  So before you go to Vietnam, go to the bank and ask for a new paper money.  And go to any jewerly stores in Vietnam and exchange there..

    Have a good trip!!!

  7. Im off to Ho Chi Minh City in less than a week and have been informed the best form of money to take is the DONG which is their main currency as it is accepted at alot more places as opposed to the US dollar.

You can use the US Dollar at some places around Ho Chi Minh though it will be easier and more conveinient for you to just use the Dong.

I am from Australia and just exchanged some money into the dong as opposed to the US dollar and it works out for me at a rate of $1 = 12500 Dong.

This is with the US$1 = AU$1.07 (Aussie dollar) so the previous answers arent far off the conversion rate.
