Question:

Current cost of life in Montreal (Canada)?

I have received a job offer in Montreal, Canada. The salary is more or less 1100 CAD per month, after taxes. It's much less than Western europe's standars, but I know life is cheaper over there. However, with the current rise of prices everywhere, I'd like to know if I'd be able to manage with that amount of money.

What I need is the current price of basic goods and services (food, transports...) + any relevant tip or comment.

  1. Monthly bus pass: $65/mo

    Litre of gas: $1.50

2 1/2 apartment in the city center: $860/mo

    5 1/2 apartment near Snowdon metro: $1050/mo

  2. $1100 per month isn't too bad.   You won't be rich or anything but it is very easy to live off that amount.  Currently I make about $1000/mnth after taxes.  I live in a 2 bedroom apartment I have a car, 2 cats, 1 dog. take good care of them, I eat all organic food (so I spend about double what normal people do).  I take 2 vacations a year (usually about 4 or 5 days for each vacation).  I buy at least one new outfit a week.  So I can live well off of that.

  3. I would agree with those rent prices so you be the judge.... Even in the roughest parts of town, it's getting quite expensive rentwise but you CAN get lucky and get a small apartment for 400-500 CAD/month not to mention transportation, food, telephone,etc....

That person living comfortably on 1000/month maybe has had that apartment for quite a while???
