I know there is a Cassel in Germany but there also had been a village named Cassel in Prussia that is now in Poland and the name has been changed. I saw the name one time but I can't find it now. Anyone know what it was. I have a death certificate and I believe that was where a great great grandmother was born.

  1. The only two choices I know of are:

    1. Kassel, Hesse. It's Germany now, but at the time of the unification, it was Prussia.

    2. Kamarovka, Ukraine. It was founded by Evangelikas from Germany back when the Ukraine didn't exist. At some point, it could easily have been considered part of Poland, as much of the Ukraine was at some point or the other. (That border changed much too often, as you know.) This site actually has a list of the names of the settlers. So maybe it can help. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/...

The one other possibility is it could have been Boleslawiec, which is known as the Castle town. It's the home of the finest stoneware makers in Europe IMHO.  Here's a little history on the town, though there are thousands of other sites. http://www.staypoland.com/about_boleslaw...

Otherwise, if you have a year on it I can try checking a few of the Prussian databases and seeing if there's more information on the family.
