Current power rankings: The top three favourites for the US Open 2010

The United States Open championship 2010 will start in a couple of weeks at the Flushing Meadows in the city of New York as the fourth and the final major competition of the season. In this regard, let us discuss the top three favourites for the hard court tournament with special reference to this month’s power rankings.
1. Rafael Nadal
As far as the power rankings are concerned, Rafael Nadal is the top favourite player to win the US Open 2010 apart from his current world ATP rankings. He has got the highest power rankings points of 711 and is nearly four thousand points ahead of Federer as well as Djokovic with neither of them contesting prior to the master’s series in Toronto.
In the past, Rafa’s game was considered to be a major threat, particularly on hard courts. However, this is not the case anymore; as the Spaniard plays equally well on all types of surfaces provided that he remains fit and healthy.
The number one player, Rafael Nadal has not participated in any of the tournament after the grass court Grand Slam competition at the All England Club this season and is therefore relaxing his body and mind at the moment. This will definitely help him in entering at the Flushing Meadows, all set to grab his first US Open title.
Nadal without any question has the chances more than anyone else to reach the US Open final for the very first time in his career. He only has to take care of his knees throughout the tournament and rest will turn out to be in his favour for sure.
2. Nicolas Almagro
Nicolas stands behind Nadal with power ranking points of 335. He has performed pretty well over the last three weeks, grabbing a total of two trophies that improved his ATP rankings from eighteen to sixteen.
Almagro, in one of his recent interviews, while commenting on his future targets said, “I plan to reach the top ten spot and further improve my rankings”.
Anyhow, as the power ranking favours the hot headed Spaniard, who made his way into the quarterfinal of the Grand Slam French Open tournament this year, his latest results indicate that he has knocked down only a single player in the top thirty list since the clay court event.
As far as his US Open predictions are concerned, Almagro has made it into the ATP final just once on the clay court and he has never participated in a Masters final. However, having seeded high for the US Open 2010, Nicolas will at least reach the quarterfinal stage of the competition this year in the city of New York.
3. Juan Carlos Ferrero
As far as the power rankings are concerned, the twenty one seeded Carlos stands at 327 points. The revived professional life of Ferrero continued this week as he won against Potito Starace in straight sets in Umag. After winning a total of three ATP titles in a row this season, Carlos certainly has got a top place in our list.
The talented Ferrero has had an excellent season as far as the clay court is concerned; however he did not perform good enough on either grass or hard court this season. Moreover, another point to be mentioned here is that, Ferrero has been facing problems with regard to his knee over the recent past. Therefore, it will be quite tough for him to reach the later stages of the tournament. However, it will definitely be an exciting draw if he remains fit and healthy all through the tournament.
