I am a college music student and I am interested in studying in Europe. One of the primary countries of interest for me is Serbia. However, I'm concerned about attitudes toward Americans given recent unfortunate events. As an American, would I be safe in Serbia? How do Serbs in general treat Americans?

(please note, I have traveled to many places throughout the world, and I am always respectful of local customs and sensitive to local feelings. I am always keen to learn from people directly rather than filtered soundbites, since people are far more complex than newspapers or TV shows would have us believe. Additionally, I always try to learn the local language, at least well enough so I can get around)

  1. I would say you would be fine.  Serbian people are intelligent enough not to blame the general public over the decisions of your government.  I would recommend asking this question on the Trip Advisor website as well as you are more likely to get a locals opinion.  I hope you have a great experience in Serbia.

  2. No worries,we are friendly people. Many tourists here, nobody ever bothers them with politics.

  3. Believe me you will have no problems in Serbia. Actually Serbs don't have bad attitude towards American people only towards US politics (I am very proud of that fact). Generally speaking Serbs are extremely friendly with foreigners, the only problem an American may have is that many people will bore him with explaining that Serbs are not that bad as portrayed in media and although you may alreday know that, they won't stop, to make sure you got it right ;))) Kidding, I have a couple of American friends back in Belgrade, none of them had any bad experience, furthermore those guys decided to stay in Serbia for some longer while and now they live there. Enjoy your stay!
