Currently I am a licensed PARAMEDIC with civilian field experience. I am looking to enlist with an Army Reserve unit, but I want to know the truth about enlisting and choosing a MOS. If I choose MOS 68w because I want to continue to learn more about my profession and serve my counrty with the credentials that I have already obtained, WILL I GET IT? Or will a recruiter promise me the MOS and I end up working on tanks somewhere?

Does the Army give any special prefernce to "all-ready trained" medical professionals?. I know I will have to complete AIT despite of my licensing, but will I go straight to the "Whiskey phase"??? What is the "whiskey phase" anyways.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

  1. Your civilian credentials are a plus, but, if you join the Army as a 68W, YOU will still need to go to BCT and AIT at Ft Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.

Military medicine and procedures, protocols are different from the civilian world.

Your College degree or Paramedic training might help you enlist at an advanced rank (E-3)

Talk to an Army Medical Recruiter.

  2. If you have 68W as your chosen MOS on your contract, that is the MOS you will have.

There is a difference between military and civilian emergency medicine/patient care. Your current credentials will be helpful. But you still attend the school.
