in jr high or high school? Are there test he can take for this. Having his BA in psychology is not enough yet to be a counselor at school. He's working on his MA.

  1. Basically the US education system is divided into 3 groups:

    k~12, college+, private schools.

    >In private schools, as long as you demonstrate to the head of the school that you're competent to teach x*x, then you may.  but some may still require a min of BA,BS

    >in k~12, depending on each state, most would require you to get a minimum of a BA,BS and a teaching credential.

    >in college+,universities, you may teach (part time) with an MA, MS, but preferably you have a PhD or beyond in order to have the full benefit of teaching in a university.  However, you do not necessarily need a teaching credential

  2. Yes, as long as he has a teaching certificate.  Most states require a masters degree to teach in the public school system but allow practicing teachers a number of years to obtain it after they've already started teaching.
