Currie Cup round 10: Preview
Round 10 of the Currie Cup is set to go over the weekend and it is certain to be an exciting one. The Natal Sharks and Western Province are looking to regain their form, while Free State and the Golden Lions hope to continue to press for top spots.
Pumas vs. Natal Sharks
The Pumas will host the Natal Sharks at home in Witbank in the rounds first match-up.
The Pumas are coming off of their third win of the season over the Leopards and will be interested in turning it into a win streak. However, they will be in tough against the League’s top side.
The Sharks suffered an embarrassing loss to one of the main rivals, the Blue Bulls, last week and will be interested in reversing their fortunes in round 10. The Pumas should present the Sharks with an easy target as they attempt to extend their lead on the field.
The Pumas are currently in seventh with 17 points, while the Sharks are in first with 36.
Golden Lions vs. Griquas
The Golden Lions welcome the Griquas to Johannesburg this weekend.
The Golden Lions are coming off an impressive win at home over Western Province last week. If the Golden Lions hope to push their way into the top four they will need to defeat the Griquas on the weekend.
The Griquas meanwhile are coming off a loss to Free State and will be hoping to get back on track against the Golden Lions. With a win the Griquas can jump the Lions in the standings.
The Lions are currently in fifth with 25 points, while the Griquas are in sixth with 24 points.
Western Province vs. Leopards
Western Province will host the Leopards at home in Cape Town, in their round 10 match-up.
Western Province are coming off two straight losses – the most recent to the Griquas last week. However, they should break the streak this week against a lowly Leopards side.
The Leopards are almost guaranteed to finish in last position and be relegated; nevertheless they are still capable of playing the role of spoiler. However, they will have tough time challenging WP on the road.
Western Province is currently in second with 28 points, while the Leopards are in last with five points.
Free State vs. Blue Bulls
Free State will be taking on the Blue Bulls at home in Bloemfontein this weekend.
Free State is coming off of an impressive victory over Griquas on the weekend and will have to better their form against the Blue Bulls. Free State was able to move into third place having had a notable two weeks and with a win can move into second spot.
The Bulls managed to defeat the first place Natal Sharks last week and will be hoping that they are finally in form and able to move onto the second round.
Free State is currently in third with 28 points, while the Bulls are in fourth with 28 points.
